OFF gRID BATTERY bANK
CABIN IN THE WOODS
If you think “cabin in the woods” when you hear “off-grid”, then you would be totally right.
In this area of Virginia many people have second homes or small cabins on large pieces of land that may not have the ability to get grid electricity for one reason or another. AEC can help fill that need for reliable energy when a grid connection is not possible. With the use of a properly designed solar powered battery bank, AEC helps customers solve their off grid electrical problems.
Off grid means you are not connected to a major power grid at all. If you are using power in an off-grid application, it is being generated on your property in one form or another. The most common form of off grid power generation is solar photovoltaics coupled with a lithium ion battery bank for storage.
The problem with being off grid and using solar as a main power source is that you are entirely dependent on the sun. While the sun will come out eventually, here in Virginia it may take a few days. So, during those few days of cloudiness when your solar is not producing enough energy to cover your homes needs, a battery bank is needed to bridge the gap.
A battery bank will capture and store excess energy created from your solar system, allowing you to keep the lights on at night or when weather prevents good solar production.
AEC has equipped many homes with a solar powered battery bank capable of sustaining their needs for many days at a time. Going off-grid is not recommended if it can be avoided for most residential applications
A couple of things to consider:
- The battery bank will not last forever
- Depending on the size of the battery bank and your homes needs you may get a few days to a week.
- Power management will be required to make sure the stored energy is utilized efficiently.
- The best way to get the most out of your system is to design the home to be energy efficient thus requiring less energy
